Introduces terminals with inReach technology that allows, in cases of emergency, to connect with a global control center for search and rescue of people

Thanks to the global coverage of the Iridium satellite constellation, the inReach terminals provide public agencies, security forces and the army, communications, shared location, navigation and critical SOS functions both on land and in the ocean.

Madrid, October 16, 2018.- Satlink, a Spanish engineering company specialized in satellite communications, has signed an agreement with Garmin to commercialize the satellite communications devices of this company in our country. As a result of this agreement, Satlink has already introduced into the market the inReach devices of the North American company that provide communication, shared location, navigation and critical functions of SOS to public organizations, security forces and bodies of the state and the army, thanks to the worldwide coverage provided by the Iridium satellite constellation.

The new Garmin inReach devices (inReach Mini, inReach SE+, inReach Explorer+) offer GPS navigation and, in case of emergency, allow to activate an interactive SOS message that sends the exact location to the emergency monitoring and response agency, GEOS, a world control center available 24/7/365 that will respond to the message, monitor the device and notify the user of the actions that are taking place.

In combination with Garmin’s Earthmate GPS navigation app, all inReach features can be used, via Bluetooth, on compatible Apple or Android mobile devices to access downloadable maps, aerial images, track journeys and share them for free, download weather forecasts for any point of an itinerary and connect with social networks from any corner of the planet. The application can also link an inReach device with the address book of a smartphone.

The new terminals are resistant to water and impacts and integrate a rechargeable lithium battery that provides up to 100 hours of autonomy with tracking every 10 minutes (SE and Explorer models) and 50 hours in the Mini model.

According to Óscar Santidrián, director of the business unit of Public Administration of Satlink, “for everyone, for all those public bodies, security bodies and armies that need a global and secure communications solution, the inReach devices provide the necessary tranquility that implies being permanently connected and without being aware of traditional coverage both on land and at sea”.

For Salvador Alcover, general manager of Garmin Iberia, “thanks to this alliance with the main supplier of satellite equipment in Spain, Satlink customers will be able to explore their limits in a much safer way, since with inReach Mini, inReach SE+ and InReach Explorer+ will have a global communication by land, sea and air that will keep them always connected and protected. The Iridium satellite network guarantees coverage at all times even in the most remote places on the planet, where mobile coverage does not currently reach. ”
