Satlink will provide Broadband Satellite Communications to the Spanish 'Guardia Civil'
La tecnológica española ya suministra los equipos de banda estrecha a los 56 buques que componen la flota completa de este cuerpo
Satlink, a Spanish technology company specialized in satellite telecommunications, has been the winner of the contract to provide broadband satellite communications services (VSAT) to the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) patrol boats for the next three years. The company already supplies the narrowband (L-band) equipment with which all of the 56 vessels that currently make up this fleet are equipped.
Satlink will provide this broadband telecommunications technology to 20 ships in this fleet to ensure optimized Ku-band coverage, both in Spanish territorial waters and in other waters in which these vessels may intervene exceptionally, always in accordance with international treaties. Satlink will provide the service with a VSAT solution supported by the satellite network of the Spanish operator Hispasat.
Thanks to the combination of both satellite communication services, these Guardia Civil vessels can use the narrowband (up to 492 Kbps compared to the minimum of 2.5 Mbps of the VSAT solution) as a backup system, ensuring an availability of practically 100%.
Satlink will also manage the service and provide 24×7 assistance and technical support to the patrol boats from its new satellite communications technology center located in Marín, Pontevedra.
According to David Carmona, director of Satellite Communications at Satlink, "with the choice of a Ku-band VSAT solution, the Guardia Civil is investing in reliable and guaranteed connectivity, essential for the operation of any ship today, especially if it performs a task of the criticality of the State Security Forces and Corps. Carmona adds, "This solution foresees the continuous increase in demand for data usage, which allows us to guarantee a higher bandwidth to be able to adapt to future requirements and technologies".
With this award, Satlink reinforces its technological leadership in satellite connectivity services for Government and Public Administration units, due to its operational capacity and technical flexibility to guarantee critical telecommunications services uninterruptedly and with maximum efficiency.
